12 Days of Christmas: Blog Tag!

Hello Friends! Welcome to Day Four* of the 12 Days of Christmas Blog Party, hosted by the marvelous Faith L. Potts of Stories by Firefly! I’m teaming up with 21 other bloggers to share the true meaning of Christmas – and have a great time while doing it!

For my first post for the 12 Days of Christmas, I’ll be posting a blog tag that anyone is welcome to take part in. You can view the questions here on Faith’s first post.

AND … that is all! I’m leaving my regular blogging schedule behind a bit next week with a post on Monday (and another the Monday after that, Christmas Day!), but otherwise, nothing is changing … except Christmas is here!

*I didn’t do the first 3 days; I’m going to be posting 5/12 days. 12 posts in 12 days is a lot of posts! *applauds the awesome folks who are doing this* *and Faith, who is doing 24!*

1 // Christmas is the season of hope, joy, and light. What’s your favorite thing to make this season bright?

Christmas music is the first thing that comes to mind! I don’t know about you, but when I hear Christmas music, I’m instantly in a better mood. It’s just so … happy. Even the kind of melancholy/wistful songs are happy. I looooove O Little Town of Bethlehem!

2 // Reading of the Christmas story, lighting the tree – Which tradition is most special to you?

Every Christmas, we have most of our Christmas celebrations on Christmas Eve. Most of my family, my mother’s brothers and my grandparents, live very close to each other. We share 100+ acres of land.

And … every Christmas Eve, we go to each of their houses, open presents, have a progressive dinner … it’s loads of fun!

I also really enjoy listening to Christmas carols (I’m a huge music fan … can you tell? πŸ˜› ) and our Christmas concert (I play lead clarinet and mediocre saxophone, hehe) and … other things.

3 // Festive old hymns or glorious new tunes – What are you listening to on repeat?

Everything by the Carpenters is on repeat all Christmas long. πŸ˜‰ Also, I have a special place in my heart for a CD which has Christmas favorites from Nat King Cole, Bing Crosby, and Dean Martin AND for basically anything my Michael W. Smith. So pwetty … ❀

And then there’s a band called “Go Fish,” and they have an album called “Snow” which I’ve been listening to a lot.

At the moment, I’m in love with O Come, O Come Emmanuel and O Little Town of Bethlehem (singing them, haha … and, no, I’m not gonna say I have a terrible voice just to be relatable …). As far as listening … just all of them.

4 // Fiction and nonfiction, classics and contemporary – Which Christmas books do you love so much that you just have to re-read every year?

A Christmas Carol, naturally! Other than that … not really anything! We have a lot of Christmas picture books that we read every year – Christmas in the Country, The Story of Holly and Ivy, The Year of the Perfect Christmas Tree

5 // Trees and nativities, bells and bows – Do you have a favorite Christmas decoration?

Ooh, definitely Christmas lights! I love seeing them strung all over the place – whether that’s on the house or on the tree!

Unfortunately, less and less people seem to be decorating the outside of their houses. I encourage y’all to do so … SPREAD THE CHRISTMAS SPIRIT. (Or rather the Jesus spirit, hehe, though most won’t think of it that way.)

6 // From the prophets to the gospels, the timeless story is woven. Which Bible passage that speaks of our Savior birth holds a special place in your heart?

It’s the most cliche one possible …

And there were, in that same country, shepherds, abiding in the fields keeping watch over their flocks by night …

(Linus got to me, I admit. πŸ˜› )

7 // Glittery snowflakes and shimmering balls to angels and one-of-a-kind creations. Do you have a favorite tree ornament?

Every year since my first Christmas, my parents have bought me a Christmas ornament to hang on the tree. And … honestly, I love them all! My favorite would be a little girl dressed in pink holding a teddy bear.

8 // Red and green, silver and gold, even purple and blue! What’s your favorite color scheme this time of year?

Red and green! Particularly red and green plaid.

9 // Between the old and the new, the classics and the cartoons, which Christmas movie do you come back to year after year?

Every single one? Old ones (It’s a Wonderful Life and The Bishop’s Wife), cartoons (we have sooo many; Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Frosty the Snowman, lots of Looney Tunes and Merry Melodies …), newer(ish) movies (The Santa Clause), and … others! Quite honestly, we watch dozens of movies every year, and it’s awesome.

10 // Pies and cakes, cookies and sweets. What’s your favorite Christmas treats?

Hmm … fudge is awesome. I also love toffee and almond bark and … basically most Christmas candies. I don’t really like pie all that much (except pumpkin pie), and I get tired of sugar cookies quickly. πŸ˜‰

  1. How do you have time to watch all of those Christmas movies this time of year? Do you write Christmas cards and wrap presents while you watch? πŸ˜‰

I’m surprised that you say people aren’t decorating outside as much. I haven’t really seen much of a decrease; in fact, there’s one house that can be seen from the highway; the property is absolutely COVERED with lights. It honestly looks like something out of a movie… or something.

Oh, it’s okay. I’m pretty sure Linus gets to everyone. πŸ˜›

And yes red and green! Those are the true Christmas colors, after all.

    1. Nope, we don’t! Well, sometimes my mom does, but I’m pretty much banned from wrapping presents due to … incidents. πŸ˜‰

Really? That’s neat. Maybe it’s just our town. My mom sometimes says that it’s pretty spiritually dead here – all year round. 😦

      1. Oh, those… incidents… sound bad. πŸ˜› Must have been bad enough to have you banned from present-wrapping. XD

Aw, that’s too bad. I can’t exactly say I’m surprised, though. I bet the whole West Coast is spiritually dead.

        1. Hehe, well, not too bad, but my mom is picky about what goes under the tree. πŸ˜›

Well, not every town. There’s a lot of life in Eastern Oregon and Washington, and parts of Northern California. Away from the towns. πŸ˜‰

          1. Haha! That’s kind of hilarious…my mom is kind of the opposite- if a present is too big to wrap with one piece of wrapping paper, she uses to kinds! (I just thought of something you might not know- we use pre-used wrapping paper. So some is already a little crumpled, maybe, or already has tape on it. :D)

  2. Thanks for the tag! I’ll try to do this, but there’s only 8 days until Christmas, what?!!!
I’ve never been a huge Christmas fan, I love summer & 4th of July. I think partly, raised in foster care, Christmas was never an actually happy time?
I love the meaning of Christmas more than all the actual festivities surrounding Christmas.

  3. Oh YESSSS. Christmas music ALWAYS gets me in the mood for things??? Some people hate it, but it’s one of my favorite parts of the holidays!! But my favorite part has to be Christmas morning where my sister and I wake up early to go wake our parents up and open presents. πŸ˜‰ All that wrapping paper on the floor makes me happy!! (But the fact that I have to clean it up definitely is not my favorite part. πŸ˜‚)

And UGH. There’s this amazing peppermint chocolate thingy that Williams-Sonoma makes and it’s SO. DELICIOUS. My mouth is watering right now just thinking of it. 😍

Great post, and happy holidays!! πŸ’œ

    1. Yeah, some people find it super annoying, but …? TOO BAD FOR THEM! *sings Jingle Bells at the top of my lungs* Ooh, that’s so fun, May! We open most of our presents on Christmas Eve, lol, but we still have lots of wrapping paper. (What can I say? We have no self-control … πŸ˜› )

Oooh, that sounds amazing! Peppermint and chocolate is just … awesome.
